Artist's Bio

Charles Williams is a St. Louis-based artist who believes that art should be accessible to all. He received his B.A. in Applied Design and Visual Art from the University of Houston-Clear Lake and his M.A. in Journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia. His body of work includes photography, travel writing, painting, digital storytelling and greeting cards.

His travel photography has won numerous awards from Islands magazine and the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, as well as first place recognition in the pictorial category in the College Photographer of the Year competition. Photos from a yearlong journey through the South Pacific were displayed in League City, Texas, and one of his sculptures has adorned the director's office at the Johnson Space Center.

Williams served as online Arts and Entertainment editor for 16 years at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, where he immersed himself daily in a culture of visual arts, theater, movies and music. He is proud that the newspaper allowed him to share his love of the arts with his community.

He is an avid world traveler and credits much of his artistic inspiration to the people, places and things he has encountered — from aboriginal painting in Australia to the lust rainforests in Costa Rica to the pastel colors of Cinque Terre in Italy. Since 2016, he has served as the editor of the Pursuits with Enterprise travel magazine, as well as a writer and photographer for many stories.

Williams also created The Dostal Project, a graduate school genealogy project based on his family's immigration that has been mentioned in several books and thesis papers.

Williams is adamant that art is for everyone, and since 2000, has created unique holiday greeting cards that use inexpensive and recycled objects while artistically pushing the boundaries of convention.
